Certified for the future: Crimppi’s commitment to sustainability

All four of Crimppi’s factories are now certified according to ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental management), and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety). Behind the certifications lies a deep-rooted commitment to continuous improvement, transparency and responsibility – values that shape the everyday operations across the organization.

“These certificates are not just framed documents on the wall”, says Olli Koskimies, Quality Manager at Crimppi. “They describe how we actually work, and make our commitment to quality, safety and responsibility visible both internally and externally.”

A unified standard across all sites

Crimppi’s factory in Latvia began operations in spring 2024 – and within a year, it was certified according to all three ISO standards. A rapid achievement made possible by great teamwork and by building on the groundwork laid in our other units.

Ensuring that all factories – in Finland, China, Croatia and Latvia – are certified to the same international standards brings consistency and transparency across the global organization. It also makes life easier for customers.

“It significantly simplifies customer’s approval process and saves both sides a lot of time,” explains Koskimies. “Having internationally recognized standards in place means we don’t need to go through extensive audits or clarify basic procedures – we can simply show that we’re certified.”

Turning standards into everyday practice

To ensure the standards are not just theoretical, and to make them as easy as possible to follow, Crimppi has fully digitalized its quality system. All core processes, responsibilities and procedures are documented and accessible to employees through a structured intranet platform.

“Before the digitalization, information was scattered and hard to manage. The new platform has brought clarity,” says Koskimies. “Everything is there – from our values and policies to organization charts and process descriptions. This makes everyday work safer and more structured and onboarding much smoother.”

The system is also aligned with the structure of the ISO standards, which supports both internal training and external audits.

Driving improvement and innovation

The core idea behind every ISO standard is continuous improvement. Crimppi tracks a range of indicators, including delivery accuracy, environmental impact, and workplace safety. Each factory is audited annually by an external party, and Crimppi conducts internal 6S audits every two weeks to monitor implementation and identify improvement areas.

Employees are also encouraged to submit ideas for improvements, both big and small, and rewarded for contributions that lead to measurable results.

“Sometimes it’s a more ergonomic way to do a task, sometimes a new tool that saves time,” says Koskimies. “Even small changes can make a big difference in efficiency, safety, or job satisfaction.”

Looking ahead: preparing for ISO 27001

In line with its commitment to responsibility and customer trust, Crimppi is now preparing to certify its Finnish factory to ISO 27001, the international standard for information security management systems. The goal is to complete the certification in 2025 and expand it to other subsidiaries in the following year.

“With cyber threats and data protection becoming increasingly critical, we see this as a natural next step,” concludes Koskimies. “The foundations are already in place. We’re now building on what we’ve learned through our previous certifications.”
